Itinerary description
This trail is one of Kalopanagiotis trails net, most routes of which start/end at Lampadistis monastery and can be combined.
Route 1 - The River Trail (https://www.wikiloc.com/hiking-trails/the-river-trail-route-1-kalopanagiotis-80289559 )
Route 2 - The Viewpoint Trail (https://www.wikiloc.com/hiking-trails/the-viewpoint-trail-route-2-kalopanagiotis-90724464 )
Route 2a - The Viewpoint Trail (longer one)
Route 3 - The vineyard Trail
Route 3a - The vineyard Trail (longer one) ( https://www.wikiloc.com/hiking-trails/cy-the-vineyard-trail-route-3a-kalopanagiotis-153148786 )
This time I walked route 3 which partially goes amidst vine yards set on hills slopes.
Some great views of surrounding villages and vine terraces.
TERRAIN: a bit of asphalt and concrete roads, gravel-dusty roads and narrow rocky forest path. Constant ascent to the top, then descent. Initially elevation is mild but when the forest path starts, ascending becomes sometimes rather steep. Descent is on gravel roads, somewhat steep as well (use side paths not the main road), so poles would be helpful.
SEASON: the trail is mostly exposed to the sun apart from forest path which is shady more or less
SIGNS: direction signs are mostly Ok except for two parts: (1) at a certain point on the top they disappear that’s how I’ve chosen a wrong way (but luckily got back on the trail later) and (2) around new winery, which construction site ruined all sign posting in the area making it really hard to define a way to go (i had to pass through construction site finally).
Along forest trail there are some plant plates as well and there are a few benches in the 2nd part of trail.
KIDS: better not to take little kids, I would recommend from around 10 yo due to rocky rolling surface at some parts of the trail.
