Otter Lake
A man made wall in the river dams it up, so a pair of otters desided they will move in! See if you can spot them.
Bushpig Dwelling
Look out when moving through here, a pair of bushpigs have called this place home long before we started walking here. So be respectful and don't bother them if you see them.
Interesting Rocks
On the one day hike, interesting rock
Twin Bore Holes
This looks like the site of 2 bore holes right next to each other... Giving an indication to a big water source and huge irrigation needs some time ago.
Mice Collony
In this area one can see evidance of field mouse spiecies... not far into the long grasses there is a big collony! Looks like a highway between the holes. Popular area for snakes and birds of prey!
Interesting Rocks
Beautiful rocks on the bank of a stream, in high rain times they might be under water. The age and story of how these rocks came to be is very interesting...
Cradle of Life Dam
This will be a good point to look out for water birds, once the dam has been reapaired... for now it does not look like much, with a ruined pump house at its wall.
River Crossing
Old tree marking a shallow part with rocks in the stream... Nice place to rest a bit and listen to the birds and the water runnig... In flood times might be difficult to cross.
Interesting Rocks
These rocks have a history to them (as well as to just looking impressive), as they overlook the Lyns spruit. You have to cross this stream here.
River Rocks
A very plesent resstop where you can walk amoung the rocks in the Komati River. Just keep an eye open for a crocodile that sometimes frequent these waters! See if you can find the "Slaap Klip", a rock that one can ly on top of with now discomfort (keep an eye open! Easy to fall asleep)
Lookout Point
This is a good lookout point over the river and stream joining, and over the dam... and further even!
Swimming Spot and Tent Area
This area is nice for taking a swim in the Komati river. Just next to the river will be an overnight point with tents.
Peacan Forrest
With just over 800 trees, Cradle of Life has the only Peacan Festival in South Africa... When the tree gets ready to produce its nuts, it loses all its leaves. But during summer months it is a beautiful green tree!
Big River Rock
This is a beautiful big rock formation in the middle of the Komati river. If you want to walk on it, you will have to swim to it! Just keep a eye out for a local crocodile!
River Crossing
Use the Bridge when the river is flooded. And if you have an adventurous soul, you can just from the bridge into the deep sections. (But not when you can see the bottom clearly)
