Itinerary description
I usually park my car on the verge of the A286 about 1 km south of Cocking at the junction on the left driving from Coccking past wolverston farm. This is a long walk and I try to get there early. Start the walk at the bottom of the hill and you can remove your clothes when you enter the forest off the road. The start of the path is steep and crosses the road to the oil well which I have not seen anyone use in all times I walked this route. After crossing the road you will follow the delightful route through the forest and end on the south down way.
This section of the South Downs Way between Cocking to Amberley is popular especially at weekends with rablers and mountain bikers so you may have to cover up. I tend to walk this route during the week and meet only a handful of textiles and I cover up if I get time. The route features beautiful wild flowers primarily used for hiking, walking, and bird watching.
An option to try if you would prefer an alternative to the Southdowns way for the route back then I suggest that you walk on the Southdowns route until the junction with “Broad walk track”. Follow the track until the first right turn and then follow this route north and avoid the oil well.
Comments always welcome

Hi Bashar69,
My husband and I did your walk last weekend. We are still talking about how wonderful it was. Peace and beauty everywhere. We have been talking about it all week. Thank you
