Itinerary description
Your start in wonderful village :- Ziga.
It’s a wonderful walk, with great views, although quite long, best to use boots n hiking sticks n have thermal clothes as it can get really cold at the top of Mount Abartan . Take lots of water n something to eat ! Beautiful views when you climb to the top of Abartan mountain. You come back through the villages of Berroeta, Aniz, returning to Ziga:- your starting point.
The walk is named after a very beautiful lady named Maite, who lived in Pamplona, a long time ago. Before you climb Abartan, there is a wooden post with a silver plaque, showing her name n date of her passing. This also a good place to stop n have something to eat n drink.
To climb Mt Abartan, start from that wooden post n go straight up, it’s much easier to go that way. At the top there is a loverly lookout place, also a navigational instrument, take some pics, then later when leaving, just go straight down the mountain, the way you came up; be careful, as easy to slip, especially if it’s been snowing or raining.
