Itinerary description
Loop Hike from Winans Meadow Parking Lot, through riparian flood plane, old spring, wetlands, Carrie Murray Nature Center, drop into the ravine, and back again.
Begin at Winans Meadow Parking lot.
Head east out of parking lot on paved path (Gwynns Falls Trail) opposite direction of cement bridge.
Follow GFT to large arched bridge and just beyond bridge, go LEFT at steps and right at top of steps. Go uphill on Stream Trail passing Heide's Trail on left. At top of hill continue on the Old Spring Trail and follow until it ends at intersection of GFT and Hutton Rd Trail (both are paved roads). Go LEFT (uphill) on Hutton Tr and LEFT again when you come to Wetland Trail. Follow Wetland Tr (boardwalk) up and at top of boardwalk, go RIGHT to continue to the Carrie Murray Nature Center. Walk to the left, behind the Nature Center, around to the fire pit area and follow trail to the right into the wooded area to about 12-14 steps that take you down to the Heide Trail (old signs may still say Ridge Trail). Go left on Heide's Tr and follow it back to the Old Spring Trail and down to the Stream Trail where you go right and return to the parking area. For a shorter hike, go right at bottom of steps onto the Heide Trail and follow for a short distance to Ravine Tr, go LEFT and follow trail down to Cardin Pavilion to return to parking lot.
