Itinerary description

A nice day-hike starting of along the main road to Ushguli from the little village of Lalkhori which caters to hikers with a range of 'guesthauses' and 'gesthouses'. A dirtroad will take you to the remote hamlet of Khalde, home to only one family that started a beergarden! This is a strangely beautiful place to enjoy a beer...or two...but on your way back. After the ruined outskirts of the village, which was destroyed and raized by a grumpy Russian Tsar in the 19th century, the dirtroad makes way for a solid hiking trail, often used by shepherds that spend the summer up the valley. The imposing Khalde glacier comes into view (picture) and will be reached after an hour or so. From here, it is also possible to continue towards the village of Adishi.
