Itinerary description
This is a very straight forward hike on well established trails - some of which are simple dirt tracks and not the standard Chinese steps. To get to the park you can go by local bus and the walk from the main road is not too far. Buses on this road are frequent too and from Miyun. Check baidu maps for bus details. However, it is best to go by car.
To get in to the park you must pay 45RMB. The car park is 5RMB. There are toilets just as you enter the park. This hike was in winter and the river was mostly frozen. Hence, there were some natural ice "water falls". Totally stunning. I walked anti-clockwise so I hiked up the valley first. The ascent to the summit is not too arduous and as you are walking up the river valley it is surprising how much ascent you make without even noticing. The views from the summit and the subsequent ridge path are breath taking. The day I went there was no pollution and the views of Miyun reservoir were staggering beautiful. The low winter lighting certainly helped. I strongly recommend this walk - especially in winter. If there are any intrepid hikers in Beijing feel free to add me on wechat. My ID is timparkes36.
