Itinerary description
Started from the Clydagh Bridge carpark on the north side of the Galty Mountains.
The first 2km is a forest walk with two nice shortcuts along the way (image 1).
Then there is a steep incline up to 350 meters.
Then follow the obvious path facing south for another 2km up to the lake.
Most hikers avoid this path (the ice road) to climb up to Galtymore (Ireland’s highest inland mountain).... So you might have Lake Curra all to yourself.
We last visited Lough Curra in March 2017.
This time there was no snow on the slopes and instead returned the same way as arrived.
This is easier and quicker than finding one’s own way back. (it’s all a matter of preference).
