Itinerary description
It’s a circular trail but I didn’t manage to walk the whole route due to July heat.
This is a great trail to walk with sometimes breathtaking views, very rich in flora and fauna, though at some parts quite demanding in efforts, thus I qualified it as difficult.
There is a possibility to walk it the other way around thus substituting the difficult ascending with the milder one.
TERRAIN: mainly standard forest paths sometimes narrow, some times wide. Descending and ascending with elevation around 500+ m, not boring to walk but requires stamina. The most easiest part is from the beginning until the 1st sign, moderate part lasts till picnic site. The last part with the elevation is the most difficult.
The first 3-4 kilometers go along the river and various streams. Now in summer they all are dry but during winter-spring be prepared for quite some wet crossings. Thus poles are recommended.
SIGNS: the part up until picnic site has no signs except for the one but trail is definable, though in summer don’t mix up river beds with the trail.
After picnic site there are more trail signes and even some plant plates. Very few resting places.
SEASON: in warm season i would recommend to go max up until picnic site, this part of the trail has 60-70% of shade, the constant ascending part has very little shade.
The best time would be end of spring, when it’s not too hot, rivers are shallow but still exist.
In winter or early spring there might be too much water and erosion of the trail.
KIDS: definitely not for small kids, 6-7yo min with adult supervision.
At a certain point this trail overlaps with Ariadni Trail (https://www.wikiloc.com/hiking-trails/ariadni-nature-trail-gerakies-89737581 ) and Xystarouda-Agiasma-Vasiliki Trail ( https://www.wikiloc.com/hiking-trails/xystarouda-agiasma-vasiliki-nature-trail-gerakies-extension-106367623 )
