Itinerary description

The route starts at Cabot Square, just north of the Canary Wharf underground station. It passes the Docklands Museum, then follows the Thames Path to the west along the north bank of the river, then along active and disused canals and ship basins to St. Katherines Dock and The Dickens Inn. Continuing west to Tower Bridge, it crosses to the south bank of the Thames, and continues west to Borough Market, then past the Golden Hinde and the Globe Theater, then to the Millennium footbridge and to the north bank at St. Paul's Cathedral. The Shard and the Tate Gallery are just off-track along the south bank.

Recorded on January 2, 2018.

Cabot Square

GPS accuracy in the Cabot Square area is poor due to the interference of many tall buildings. The GPS accuracy improves around the Docklands Museum and stays good for most of the route.

Museum of London Docklands

The museum has free entry, with a suggested 5 UKL donation. It covers the history of the area's docks and warehouses from their founding to WWII and the modern era. It also has a fascinating section on the history of African slavery in regard to the economic development of the City and the progress of British trade.

"This tablet is in memory of Sir Hugh Willoughby, Stephen Borough, William Borough, Sir Martin Frobisher, and other navigators who, in the later half of the 16'th century, set sail from this reach of the River Thames near Ratcliff Cross to explore the northern seas".
