Itinerary description
Just on the south side of the hotel where we were staying, a large rectangular man-made pond and a huge forest-like green area spread out behind the window of the hotel.
We found out that it was Benjakiti Forest Park, which had just opened in February of last year. We went for a walk in the middle of the day to get some exercise.
The temperature was a comfortable 30 degrees Celsius. It was a power walk in the sauna.
Wetlands spread out and colorful flowers bloomed in profusion. The park looked very nice for running, with an elevated skywalk to walk over the wetlands and water, and a bike path. (Of course, smart locals don't run or walk in the hot midday sun like this.)
The giant lizards that we had often seen in the provincial towns were also common around the Dove River behind the park, and we were surprised to see that they were not limited to the countryside. This is the center of Bangkok, and the city is in the center of the city.
In Bangkok, more than half of the restaurants and cafes in shopping malls are Japanese (many of them are pure Japanese brands, but of course there are also many Japanese restaurants run by people from neighboring countries)and we had fully enjoyed Japanese food. The first Japanese restaurant in Bangkok for us was former "Nagasaki Chanmen" now re-named as Ringer Hut (my favorite).
