Itinerary description
Having not been in this part for perhaps 15 years and having heard the trail had been marked, I decided to check it out and went counterclockwise as I wanted to finish in Suljagici to meet some family friends, who in the end drove me to Borova glava fearing for my well-being (exaggerated worry from their side but after tucking 3 jars of honey into my backpack, I had no other than comply), but the track is recorded all the way until the main road as it follows the same gravel village road anyway.
Facts about the track:
- Starts off the main road, right next to the roadsign announcing the start of Nova Varos municipality
- It's circular and can be done both ways but it may be easier to spot the markings if going clockwise as most of the time sun shouldn't be in your face
- Some of the markings have dried out or have been cut down (see pics), so a few times you may have trouble guessing which way the trail goes, as well as one has to be far-sighted to see the next markings
- Going counterclockwise there will be a steep rocky ascend that may be a killer for your knees if going the other way round. The trail was marked for the sake of views, the first and last part are gravel road but middle stretches a lot going up and down. The picturesque views are omnipresent along the trail reaching all the way to Bjelasnica in B&H.
- There is one water spring on the trail
- I'd recommend high shoes and trousers in summer as it seemed to me snakes could surprise you any time half the trail. Luckily and surprisingly did not meet any in May😉
- Wild boars and bears may roam the forests there so I was advised not to ever go alone again (hence why I was given a ride back)
