Itinerary description
Starting and ending at grootdraai on Kom se pad in the Gouna region of the Knysna Forest. The trail starts with a descent down to a river and then followed by a sharp ascent of stairs thereafter the "hard" work for the day is over, thereafter gradual ups and downs are the trend for the rest of the trail. The trail runs through pristine forests with towering yellowwoods and stinkwoods forming a high canopy above. A great diversity of mushrooms and fungi can be spotted but you will need to look closely for the flashes of color in the sea of green. Keep and eye out for Bush pigs, baboons, Knysna loeries, Narina trogon, and supposedly the last Knysna elephant. Overall easy and a good option for families and the elderly or unfit. Very scenic and well worth it if you are in the Knysna area and the red/black/white elephant walks are too long or difficult for the group. Fill out a self issue permit and follow the yellow bushpig trail signs, the route is very easy to follow, well marked/signed and maintained.
