Catch the cable car in Telluride. Leaving above Mountain View, take See Forever to the top of Golden Hill. From there Washatch Junction takes you up the Bear Creek trail. Pull to the right to visit the waterfalls, which are spectacular. Then retrace your steps and head down to Telluride.
The climb up to Washatch has good views, but you're going through the middle of the ski area, which destroys the scenery in my opinion. As soon as the station is left behind, the walk is spectacular. The route can be done in reverse, but then you have to climb 1000m of unevenness.
