Itinerary description
This is a portion of the Trans Canada Trail and Elora Cataract Trailway that I took from the town of Fergus to Erin. The hike takes you over the dam and beside Belwood Lake using an old railway bed and continues through the hamlets of Orton and Hillsborough. The path is wide, well maintained and has the gradual curves and inclines associated with a railway. It is probably best done on a bike and while there were a fair number of small animals spotted the scenery is pretty tame.
Overall a good workout with a few nice vistas along the way.

The trail crosses numerous country roads and some highways. They are easy to cross and are all pretty much the same (see picture below) with barriers that are designed to limit the trail to hikers, bicyclists and horses back riding.

Just before you get to Hillsborough (Trafalgar Road) there is an access point to the trail complete with parking and a port-a-potty.
