Itinerary description
The trail starts at the old stone bridge Žukovnjak and follows an old road connecting Herceg Novi with the villages above. It's really an amazing trail with lots of insight into village life and architecture, nice views from the churches and many creeks forming cascades and a few resting places..
The first part ascends most of the way passing by a water spring Bostanj in Sušćepan, church of Saint Cosmas and Damian in Ratiševina (it's a 5min detour to your right but there's a signpost on the stone on the ground saying Sv K.I.D.), a lovely meadow just below the church feels like an oasis, and from there to the St.Elijah church it is steeper but not strenuous. The views from the church are literally 360 degrees - Orjen, Lovcen, Rumija, Lustica, Mamula, Prevlaka.. you name it... Beautiful.
Then walking back the trail continues right and gets on the asphalt road (the main road from Trebinje to Meljine) and that's the end of the marked trail. We walked about 2km down the road towards Kameno and turned right after the poultry farm passing by some disastrous illegal dumping site😱 and some nasty dogs behind the said farm so caution. After the farm the trail goes left, starts descending and follows another rocky path to the outskirts of Trebesin and then turns right following one of many creeks. At some point we turned left trying to go down one path but there was too much water on it and some bushes so we walked back and continued towards Sušćepan crossing an old stone bridge and turning left down not farther up from the bridge following the creek and enjoying its cascades. That part is very rocky but there's a trail. We got back right where we started at Žukovnjak.

Hiked to St. Kosma and Damian today following your directions. Thank you! The meadow below the church is really lovely! Decided to go to St. Ilia any other day, as we were a little tired. But totally not making a circle route as we don't want to use the roads and see dumping sites xD
