Itinerary description
A simple route that takes us from Whakapapa Village to the Taranaki falls and the Lower Tama Lake giving us unbeatable views over Ngauruhoe and Ruapehu volcanoes.
The track finishes on Lower Tama Lake, but you can continue, well marked, till the Upper Tama Lake. We didn’t do it because we lost some time crossing a stream flooding the track.
We wanted to do the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, but we could'nt due to avalanche risk. So, Taranaki and Tama Lakes was the best alternative.
