I did this trail counter-clockwise starting at the parking lot.
Being my first time at the park, I could not easily find the start of the North Logan trail in either direction from the parking lot. It turns out on one side a sign was knock down and a lot of red paint and red flags on a logging road for some construction distracted me from the other red paint used to mark the trails. On the other side of the parking lot the trail was a complete wash out. You have to walk out the car entrance of the parking lot and walk down the road 100 feet or so to start the north trail in the other direction.
Not too far from the Fire Tower, I completely lost the trail (right around where the trail splits between north and south) and assumed the logging road was the trail until I saw the trail markings approach in from the left farther down the road.
Overall, the whole trail is not very scenic for photography. The red paint markers are poorly done especially when you see the Buckeye Trail markers and see how clean and professional they are done. A lot more trees could have been marked with red dots. More clues need to be in the parking lot to point you to where the trail starts. A machete would have been very helpful with all the small branches and sticker bushes overgrowing the trail. I about fell flat on my face when a sticker bush caught my shoelaces. I have nice cuts on my calves after I gave up trying to avoid them because there were too many to avoid.
I saw another mapping of this trail somewhere on the Internet and it completely misses the first part of the north trail. I noticed that hiker walked north along the lake and caught the trail at the F marker. I guess if you want a "lite" version of the trail then that would help.
I plan on going back to hike the south trail.
I had cell phone service (very weak) when I was near the fire tower. It was a dead zone in the parking lot.
Subtract 0.5 miles off my trip for the confusion at the start which brings the total trail distance down to 9.71 miles.
