Itinerary description
On 9/13/10 we hiked a short section of the Tanawha Trail starting at the Rough Ridge parking area to the Wilson Creek Overlook (mm 303 – 304). We really enjoyed this hike and the first third was somewhat challenging as it climbed up the side of the mountain on a trail with uneven and challenging footing. Make sure you have good hiking boots!! The trail contained an interesting section of boardwalk at the higher elevations. Near the high point of this section of the trail contained was some very interesting rock outcroppings. This area was very good for photographing surrounding mountain peaks as well as the viaduct section of the Blue Ridge parkway. Awe eventually exited the trail at the Wilson Creek Overlook and followed the Blue Ridge Parkway back to our vehicle. A challenging hike, but highly recommended.
