Itinerary description
Tamana Bat Cave Hike. The hike was led by Island Hikers. We met near Arima and drove to this remote part of Trinidad down some very poor roads. We parked at the base of the hill and hiked to the top. The view from the summit was stunning, worth the hike! As the sun began to set we returned down the hill to the entrance of the cave where we witness a large number of bats streaming from the cave entrances and flying off into the bush for their nightly feed. The surface of the path was quite muddy, steep and slippery in places giving this a moderate technical difficulty, especially as the descent was in the dark with the help of flash lights. Having a guide is a really good idea for this hike, there are some large drops off the side of the path.
