Circular route within the Taman Negara national park, in Malaysia. It is the oldest rainforest in the world, more than 130 million years old.
We stayed in Kuala Tahan, the closest town to the park and we started the route here, crossing the river in one of the boats designated for this purpose for 1RM, as payment for crossing the river and entering the park.
We start with some comfortable walkways, but which take away the charm of the walk, to the "Canopy Walkway", which can be walked for 5 RM (€1.25) per person. It is a short journey of bridges placed at the top of the trees, about 40m away, which is worth it if you don't have vertigo.
Humidity reaches extreme levels so being drenched in sweat is normal. You have to carry a lot of water.
After the Canopy, the path begins to ascend until reaching the viewpoint, where the wooden walkway ends and the most beautiful part of the route begins along a dirt path. Thus we reach the peak and viewpoint of "Bukit Teresek" (Altitude. 334 m). Up to this point the route is perfectly doable by anyone who can withstand the heat and humidity conditions.
To continue, a sign warns that from that point the path is not suitable for everyone and that a guide is recommended. You can continue without a problem if you have experience in trekking, ease of moving in not very defined terrain and adequate material. It is essential, in this case, to carry a reference map so as not to become disoriented in the jungle.
So once here the path becomes more fun in a somewhat technical descent with a handrail that you can use to help yourself. This handrail is combined with very short sections of walkways in very poor condition.
At a certain point the path narrows giving us the true feeling of being in the middle of the jungle.
The last section runs parallel to the Tahan River, hidden by thick vegetation, and passes through the Lubuk Simpon bathing area.
You have to be careful with the leeches, it is a path in the middle of the jungle, it is advisable to wear long pants tucked into your socks to protect yourself and check that none of these annoying bugs sneak in.
