ROUTE CARRIED OUT IN NOVEMBER.
Nice and long excursion in the Tongariro National Park to reach the Tama Lakes, in plural, because there are two, the "Lower" or "Bajo", and the "Upper" or "Alto", and also passing through the Tanaraki Waterfall .
As you can see on the track, we cross the Wairere River right at the point where the water falls through the Tanaraka waterfall, which we can then see from above, but to see it from the front we would have to go down a long flight of stairs, which we left behind. for the return, since we will return to this same point and then we will return to the car along another path.
The path is easy to follow, although with such a long route it is inevitable that there are many "small" ups and downs that in the end add up to meters of elevation gain, but the steepest part is the one that goes from the first lake, Tama Lower, to reach the Upper, or rather, to a point from which we can see the second lake, but also the first: the Upper in a kind of crater a little lower than us, and the Lower, much lower.
When the clouds allow us, we can admire beautiful views of the Tongariro peak, and also the Ruapehu area, a volcano still active, where there is a ski resort, and at this time still with snow.
These Ruapehu mountains are located in the heart of the Tongariro national park and were one of the natural settings to recreate the Mount of Shining Fire or Mount Doom in Mordor, in the film saga of The Lord of the Rings.
After seeing the two lakes, we return along the same path, we stop to eat something, and when we arrive at the Tanaraka Falls, we go down the stairs mentioned above, and then we can see them from the front, then following the same path to the starting point .
