Itinerary description
Moderate difficulty hiking trail for one full day. Go up by cable car, and hike downhill to the bottom station. Moderate steepness, beautiful views, nice pine air, marked trail. Suitable for fit kids of age 10+.
Drive or transfer to Tahtalı bottom station, grab a ticket to the top ($28 or $21 with a residence permit), and fill out the consent for hiking (you need to provide your contact details, the route you plan to go, mark if you have water/food/GPS/map/right shoes/whistle, etc.), and go up. At the top station you can buy water and some clothes, but expect to pay a 3x-5x price for it.
After going down from Tahtali top (~3km), you can divert to Beycik (easier path, but will need to arrange another transfer) or at Çukuryayla (~5km) divert to Yaylakuzdere; or even ask for pickup at Çukuryayla in case of emergency. After Çukuryayla you won’t be able to divert anywhere, there is 11km trail w/o any civilization.
Recommendations:
1. Good trekking shoes are strongly recommended -- 90% of the trail is small-medium stone, so I'd recommend Vibram-like soles.
2. Sunscreen is required -- the sun is very hard over 2000m.
3. Bring enough water -- most of the springs are dry in autumn, and Cukuryayla water quality is questionable.
As of Sep'2022, two pieces of the trail were partially destroyed by the rains, somewhat challenging to find the next marker.
