Itinerary description
Table Mountain is one of the major highlights of a trip to Cape Town. There are many ways to access the mountain top one of which is a hike through Kirstenbosch Gardens. There is parking available and there is a fee for entry to the impressive gardens (which we did explore after our descent). From the gardens there are two different paths to the top and we chose to go up Skeleton Gorge and come back down via Nursery Ravine. The trails are in good shape, a map or GPS is recommended.
Unfortunately when we arrived at the top it was still shrouded in cloud. We thought the cloud would burn off in the time that it took to make our ascent but no such luck. So we ditched our plan to hike on to the cable car area on Table Mountain and instead we did a tour around a couple of reservoirs. We promised to try again on another day. When we got back down to Kirstenbosch the top was clearly visible, not a cloud in sight!
It was an interesting hike, the gardens were beautiful and the reservoirs were impressive in the clouds. For our successful climb to the top see Table Mountain via Platteklip Gorge.
