Itinerary description
It is a challenging climb for demanding hikers, just 25' from the city. We begin our hike from the upper part of the village of Tapes (540 m.) and continue uphill to Mount Tsivi through ancient paths, narrow valleys and ridges. We also pass by old "mitata" (shepherds’ huts) and the pothole at Mesarmi and reach the spring of Rizoma and the area of Koutelo (1330 m.) where we enjoy the breathtaking view. We cross the area of Koutelo and we either visit the important spring of Chalasa (attention! unprotected passage) or return following another old path that connects the Plateau of Lassithi to the village. The route is suitable for seasoned climbers.
Water is available at the village of Tapes (public drinking fountain), at Rizoma and at Chalasa.
Visiting period: April – November.
