T12. Selena Summit
near Mésa Potámoi, Crete (Greece)

Itinerary description
A typical summit ascent with incredible views of the Plateau of Lassithi, Mount Dikti, the northern coast of Crete and the Selena mountain range (to the east).
The route starts 500m past the village of Mesa Potamoi and in 1 hour we reach the chapel of Agios Panteleimonas and the location Zaroma. From there, a trail will lead us to the summit (1.5h hike); the total duration of the ascent is 2.5 hours and of the overall route is 4.5 hours (stops not included).
On the summit there are some German pillboxes from WWII. Also, a detour of a few meters would lead us to the precipice of Achnistra or Xepatomeni, where the legend suggests that the fleeing Germans dirscarded their equipment.
Visiting period: April – November
