Itinerary description
Route from Szilvásvárad village trough the magic beech forests of Bükki Nemzeti Park (Beech National Park) until Répáshuta village.
The route starts where the small train that goes through the valley departs. The first part follows the valley, it is very easy and goes parallel to the railway. You may find many people until the end of the train route.
After the train final station, the footpath goes up in slalom until the cave where prehistoric findings of cavemen were found. After taking a look to the cave, you must walk few meters back to find the path that will go up the hill through the forests and leave most of the people behind.
During 2km aprox the footpath is steep but not dangerous, going up to 959m (Istállós Kő), the second highest peak in Hungary. Unfortunately there are no outlooks, but further on you will find some.
The route follows through beech forests with lighter slopes and passing through the peaks of Tar Kő and Három Kő having both really nice views of the surrounding hills.
Then it goes down to Répáshuta where there is a campsite where the route ends.
In Bükki Nemzeti Park there are many footpaths, it is strongly recommended that you bring a map with you. The footpaths are well marked but you can easily get lost in the crossroads.
Footpaths are shown in the map with different shapes and colours, always having a white background, which you will find on the trees. Parts of this route follow the horizontal green line and some others the blue diagonal line. Maybe even other symbols too.
I hope you enjoy the route as much as we did :)
