Itinerary description
The route to Pyramid through this area is most often tackled as a day-hike out-and-back starting at Lyons Creek Trail off Wrights Lake road. The route I followed took full advantage of having a base camp at Sylvia where we stayed for two nights. Instead of bee-lining it straight up to the peak over steep exposed terrain I proceeded into a stunning watershed area feeding down from 9,100 feet through a canyon. Just gorgeous!
Followed the least severe contours of the land on the way up, which was still a total of 3,000-feet cumulative elevation gain in 2.2-miles. Coming back I took the the obvious fracture in the face of the cliff southeast of Sylvia. It was insane with a 20-lb backpack. Tweaked my ankle on the way-up turning this hike into a slow-slog survival jaunt. Not for the faint at heart.
