Itinerary description
You will hike two mountains while following this route Suraksan (637 m) and Buramsan (507 m). Periodically you will have a view of Dobongsan on the right side.
Difficulty.
It is a long trail with significant elevation gain which makes it intermediate. There are some steep accents but you will find attached ropes or man-made steps to help you. The trail is well-organized and well-marked. It is also possible to finish half of it after climbing one of the mountains (see access).
Public transportation.
The starting point is about 10 mins far from the Hoeryong metro station. Just follow Hoeryong-ro 192beon-gil. You will walk under a big highway bridge and you will see steps on the left side. This is the trailhead. Coordinates - 37.720610, 127.061753. You will finish not far from the Hwarangdae (Seoul Women's Univ.) metro station. Coordinates - 37.628053, 127.085115. It is also possible to do a half. When you descend Suraksan you will find the Deongneung Training Site bus stop at 37.677653, 127.092992 (P-14).
Gear.
It significantly depends on the season. For the end of October / the beginning of November, I would say you need:
1) High-cut hiking shoes
2) 1+ liters of water, electrolytes
3) fleece jacket
4) windbreaker
5) gloves to hold installed security rails and ropes
Wikiloc in Korea.
When I came to Korea I found that I could not really zoom in on the Wikiloc map after a certain level. I recommend you to download the GPS track on your Garmin, Suunto, or another GPS device and follow the trail rather than rely only on your phone. Those devices will allow you to see the track in detail. Also, offline maps on Wikiloc should work.
