Itinerary description
Note: I would not recommend the last part of the hike (beyond Brandjochkreuz) to anyone (even myself) unless you know what you're doing. I did not realize the trail to Vordere was an alpine/via ferrata (yellow) trail and you definitely need durable boots and other equipment (it's like hiking/climbing).
A gorgeous area for hiking and many outdoor activities. There are so many trails that are available for people to explore. I started in Hotting (next to botanical garden) as I was staying there. The trail is quite easy to find and there are sign posts. But in these cases, I suggest some sort of map app like maps.me so you can choose your way there.
The trails I took are quite steep (I think most are as the slope of this mountain range is steep). So it can be challenging. I should specially mention the monument way point. The south trail I took to get there there is super steep and not easy to follow sometimes so perhaps the one that flanks it from northeast is much better.
Otherwise, not much more to mention other than my precautionary note above. You need at least some climbing gear to summit via this trail. I attempted as much as I could before it felt too dangerous/exposed. The views were slightly better but not by much. So please keep this in mind.
After getting down from Brandjochkreuz, I had a little extra time and was improvising where to go. I tried to go up another trail just west of the peak and was stopped by some steep slope with snow on it (see photo). It looked too risky and turned back. This is better done in summer instead.
All in all, a very challenging hike with amazing views. I recommend going up to Brandjochkreuz and to exploring around for different views of this gorgeous range.
