Itinerary description

This somewhat obscure trail is best accessed from the Camino Reservoir Dam in Eldorado county California (off of Highway 50). It is a non-motorized trail open to hikers only. The trail follows the river for a bit, allowing access to the water in several places. Eventually it begins to climb about 1600 feet in elevation to the canyon rim. There is no trailhead sign at either end. I would have rated this as a moderate trail, but it has been so neglected by the Forest Service that it has become terribly overgrown with bushes in some areas. I actually had to crawl through 3 tunnels created by encroaching manzanita bushes. If this trail were maintained, then it would be wide enough to hike 3 abreast all the way up. If you plan on hiking this, please bring a pair of loppers in order to help open up this trail that has great views of the canyon.

Thanks for the heads up on the maintenance of this trail. Good descriptions make all the difference between an enjoyable morning and a nightmare hike
