STP1 Cidade Velha – Rui Vaz

O percurso principal da rede Santiago Trails -Nha Tradison inicia na Cidade Velha. Este é o primeiro de 4 setores que percorrem toda a ilha. A travessia começa com uma incursão para o interior da ilha, a partir da Ribeira Grande de Santiago. O percurso inicia perto do Pelourinho e deve reservar algum tempo para contemplar a zona histórica da Cidade Velha, especialmente a Rua da Banana, até entrar no leito da ribeira. Na ribeira, o percurso segue para norte, ao longo da mesma, atravessando vários terrenos agrícolas. No final da ribeira, siga para o topo da escarpa, através de um caminho empedrado que vai permitir vislumbrar a paisagem verdejante. No planalto, em Calabaceira, o percurso separa-se do complementar STC1 e segue para norte. Com o Monte Tchota no horizonte inicia-se uma subida gradual que vai serpenteado as muitas pedreiras existentes, escondidas entre as acácias. Após a passagem por Chão Grande, o caminho segue empedrado até ao miradouro de Rui Vaz. Aí chegado, todo o verdejante e profundo vale de São Lourenço dos Órgãos é revelado. Deste local são vários os percursos a que terá acesso, mas se pretender continuar a travessia só precisa de seguir o percurso STP2.

The main trail of the Santiago Trails – Nha Tradison network starts in Cidade Velha. This is the first of four segments that fully cover the Santiago Island. This segment will start with na incursion toward the island’s interior from the Ribeira Grande de Santiago. The trail initiates next to the Pillory and should dedicate some time to contemplate the historical centre of Cidade Velha, especially the Banana Street, until it reaches the stream bed. Once in the stream bed, the trail moves north alongside it, while crossing several cultivated fields. In the end of the stream the trail advances towards the top of the cliff through a rocky path that unveils a beautiful greenery landscape. In the plateau, in Calabaceira, the trail splits up from the STC1 complementary trail and heads north. With the Tchota Hill in the horizon, the trail is followed by a soft climb that moves through several quarries that hide behind the sea of acacias. After crossing Chão Grande the trail becomes rocky until the Rui Vaz viewpoint. Once in the viewpoint, the deep and greenery valley of São Lourenço dos Órgãos is presented to the trailer. In this location, the trailer can choose from a variety of trails, or can simply move forward by following the trail STP2.
