Itinerary description
Day 13. Ballycumber Hill 431m, Seskin Hill 344m, Lakeen 357m and Stookeen 420m.
On many of the peak bagging/outdoor websites I perused for this trip I noted there were very few route descriptions regarding ascents of the lesser known Irish Marilyns. This also applied to the availability of gpx files. I will therefore add relevant information and files that hopefully will provide assistance to future hikers/peakbaggers.
Stookeen 420m, South Wicklow, Eire (Marilyn).
Stopkeen is a forested top slightly West of Shillelagh on a back road once again with limited parking with room for one vehicle only.
The route is easy enough and goes along the farm track behind you and then goes uphill on a rough trail/track. After a couple of easy turns the route brings you out onto a proper forest track. Now from here you can go to the summit both ways but the down/anti clockwise route is the better pathed option. The clockwise option is perfectly feasible but you will end up doing some heather bashing. It is a nice trig pointed summit with good views.
Parking: Room for one vehicle at a forest entrance.
Route: Farm and forest tracks and paths. Good views and a nice summit.
Statistics: 4km with 184m of height gain done in 50mins.
Maps: Outdoor Active digital Harveys/Irish Topo.
