Itinerary description

This beautiful walk follows the ridge of the Comeragh Mountains from the CAR PARK below the telecom mast at Cruchain to the STONE CIRCLE and STANDING STONE between the mountains locally known as Fabreaga and Seefin.

The direction of the walk is predominantly north and you should use Discovery Map number 75 and carry a Silva compass. In cloudy or foggy conditions a GPS is recommended. The direction of the walk is predominantly north and you should use Discovery Map number 75 and carry a Silva compass. GPS should be set to Irish National Grid Ireland 1965 - the grid reference below use this coordinate system. In cloudy or foggy conditions a GPS is recommended.

Easting 227100 Northings 101600 With your back to the car park, take the track northwards and pass a standing stone on your left

Follow the track until it ends, then continue northwards and uphill. You can make your way over the open mountain. It is easiest to walk on the short heather or grass. To your right, to the east, you will see beautiful views stretching towards Waterford city. Behind you, to the south, you are looking over Dungarvan bay with the long sand spit coming into view as you gain height. Keep gaining height

At the top of Fabreaga you come to the ugly remains of a television station. However, it makes a good landmark! Please fogive this pice of techno-rubbish!

To your right, to the east, you will see a fence. Follow this fence line as it crosses the top of Fabreaga and then descends. Ahead of you you will see the white standing stone that is your destination. The stone circle in front of it blends into the hillside. To your left, to the west, the views are over the Sliabh Ghua valley (Valley of the Hounds). In front of you, to the North, the mountain of Seefin climbs up steeply after the standing stone.

Once you reach the stone circle enjoy your picnic!

Return the same way, back up to the top of Fabrega and then downhill enjoying the fine views over Dungarvan bay all the way down.

Take your time, enjoy the scenery!

Things you might see

Sheep and lambs roam free on the mountain
Orchids can be seen in June-July
Bog cotton is common
Heather blooms in July - August
