Stol 2236m
Truck truck...footsteps began to be heard outside our tents.
It is now marked and the first climbers have taken the path to the summit. We got up at a leisurely pace and got ready.
We started by traversing through the forest, but before long we had a vertical and continuous climb to the top. It quickly took us out into the alpine and a magnificent view unfolded before us.
The weather was wonderful with incredible visibility that nothing prevented us from gazing at the surrounding mountains and the beautiful Lake Bled.
We sat for a while on a log and enjoyed.
On the path there was a lot of traffic from local and foreign climbers and we had to give up our place to the next ones to continue our steep ascent.
In front of us is the Great and the Little Stol.
We made a detour and went up to the small one first. In the one where the shelter is built. Lots of people, young and old, groups and families. Before we could sit down, a paraglider (parapente) took off.
We watched it for a while, eating some of the treats we were carrying and continued on to the big Stol.
Stol is the highest peak of the Karavanke mountain range, on the border line between Slovenia and Austria. The trails on the side we climbed are hiking, unlike the ones on the Austrian side which are aimed at adventurers and rock climbers.
At the top we sat with some climbers, took photos and our route would continue for some kilometers on the ridge from which we enjoyed the landscapes from both countries, with the rocky mass of Triglav keeping our gaze fixed.
The heat has intensified, but we continued undaunted meeting climbers, wild horses and sheep during these 2 hours we were in the alpine.
Then we decided to go off the path, for a vertical descent in the green meadow to the emergency shelter, where we would find the path again to continue in the shade of the wonderful forest.
Before going out on a forest road, we filled up and washed in the cold waters of a spring. It was now only a few kilometers to the shelter, but we had a slight delay when we ran into a group of Slovenians.
They were enjoying a wonderful moment of company "lost" in the forest with food and plenty of drink. They opened their hearts to us and invited us to sit with them, offering us what they had. We tasted their Slovenian wine and some meats on the leg, because if we were seated it would be very difficult to say goodbye to them.
We arrived at the lodge around afternoon, it would be around 18:15. We sat down to enjoy mushroom soup and other dishes, to relax and before the sun went down and disappeared behind the mountains we were in our car closing the circular course…. ready to head for our next starting point.
