Itinerary description

This trail is located on UC Davis Natural Reserve System. See
http://nrs.ucdavis.edu/stebbins.html
Since this is a research area, dogs, horses, bikes, and hunting are not allowed. The trail starts by walking up canyon to an old homestead. It then climbs steeply up to the top of the ridge. The trail follows the crest of the ridge up and down hills for the next few miles. Recent improvements to the trail have added steps up the steep sections of both ends of this trail. However, there is still some areas on the trail the require some rock scrabbles. The top of the ridge does give a birds eye view of Lake Berryesa. There is a danger of falling on some of the steeper sections. Also there is a lot of poison oak on the lower side of the loop.

On the upside, you have a mile of riparian vegetation to view and then you climb out to chaparrel. Spring wildflowers are beautiful.

Great trail, I have done it a couple of times. Bring plenty of water. Way too hot in the summer to hike. If you would like a longer hike you can take the Tuleyome trail to Annies Trail where Homestead and Blue Trails meet.
