O Percurso Ambiental é um trilho de curta duração, que apesar de um perfil geralmente linear, apresenta subidas e desci- das que complicam o seu percorrer. Ao longo do percurso encontram-se painéis informativos sobre diferentes aspectos naturais e culturais desta área protegida. O percurso sobe íngreme numa escada cercada por plantas endémicas (fruto de actividades de reflorestação) continuando numa íngreme encosta até alcançar a cumeada da vertente meridional do maciço, de onde se abre um panorama magnífico sobre o planalto de Assomada, o Pico de Antónia (1394m) e seu maciço de Malagueta, e nos dias de boa visibilidade, o pico do imponente vulcão do Fogo (2829m). O caminho prossegue plano, no cume do maciço na direcção Este, proporcionando sensações fortes devido às paredes de rocha que descem escarpa- das em direcção ao planalto. Aqui podem-se ver várias espécies introduzidas, sejam vegetais (pinos e eucaliptos) sejam animais (macacos), assim como as endémicas, com particular ressalto para o tortolho (Euphorbia tuckeyana). O percurso volta para a vertente Norte do maciço e desce em direcção às redes de captação da água do nevoeiro (tecnologia simples e eficaz para minimizar os problemas ligados à escassez da água). O percurso em seguida assenta-se, por uma centena de metros em cima do Eixo Oriental (PL-Sm 01), antes de desviar à direita em direcção à estação meteorológica e o “Jardim das Nações”, dominando uma parte da bacia hidrográfica donde se origina a imponente ribeira de Principal. Finalmente o percurso desce resoluto até chegar à estrada nacional, próximo ao ponto de partida do trilho.

The Environmental trail is a short route that, despite having an unproblematic profile, presents ups and downs that can prove difficult. Along the way the route there are information panels that explain different natural and social aspects of the protected area. The route, after briefly flanking the national road climbs steeply up some stairs surrounded by endemic plants (a result of reforestation efforts), continues up a steep hillside until reaching the top of the southern slope of the park, where the trail opens to a magnificent view over the Assomada plateau, the Pico de Antónia massif (1394m), and, on days of good visibility, the imposing peak of the volcano of Fogo (2829m). Next, the path progresses smoothly, on the summit of ridge to the west, providing strong feelings of doubt for the rock walls that descend the cliffs towards the plateau. Here it’s possible to see various introduced species, such as plants (pines and eucaliptus), and animals (monkeys), as well as endemic species, in particular tortolho (Euphorbia tuckeyana). The route returns to the north slope of the park and descends towards the fog collection nets (simple effective technology to minimize the problems connected to water scarcity in Serra Malagueta). After the trail becomes part of the Eastern Track (PL- Sm01), for about a hundred meters, before turning to the right towards the Meteorological Station, it passes the “Garden of the Nations” dominating a part of the hydrological basin where the imposing canyon of Principal begins. Finally the route descends steadily until arriving at the national road, close to the point where the trail began.
