STC17 Tarrafal – Fazenda - Monte Graciosa – Tarrafal

Apesar de todo o esplendor da Baía do Tarrafal, o Monte Graciosa ergue-se da paisagem deixando curiosidade. Ao mesmo tempo, um farol distante atrai o caminhante com uma força intensa. É preciso ir descobrir! O percurso inicia em frente à igreja do Tarrafal, junto ao posto de turismo. Segue até à praia e percorre toda a extensão de areia até ao final onde, através de uma pequena vereda, sobe junto às casas e entra num trilho sombreado por acácias. Este trilho, sempre ao longo da linha de costa, vai subindo gradualmente até ao planalto na encosta do Monte Graciosa. Olhando para trás, o Tarrafal está cada vez mais distante e o trilho cada vez mais acima do mar. Chegando ao planalto existe a possibilidade de seguir em direção ao Farol (percurso completo) ou continuar em direção a Fazenda. Recomenda-se vivamente um desvio para visitar o Farol de Ponta Preta. O percurso segue ao longo do planalto, contornando o Monte Graciosa, até se começar uma longa descida por um caminho cheio de rochas que, inevitavelmente, vão caindo do topo do monte. Chegado ao fundo do vale segue-se por uma estrada de terra até Fazenda, um local ótimo para descansar antes de começar a subir o flanco oeste do Monte Graciosa através de um trilho usado pelo gado. Do topo vislumbra-se novamente o Tarrafal e toda a linha de costa. Segue-se uma longa descida até ao vale agrícola da Ribeira do Fontão. Por entre plantações de cana-de-açúcar e bebedores para o gado, o percurso segue de volta até à praia e ao seu ponto de início.

Despite the magnificence of Tarrafal’s bay, Graciosa hill catches our attention to find out what stands on the other side of it. At the same time, a distant lighthouse attracts us with its intense strength. It needs to be discovered! The trail starts in front of the church of Tarrafal, next to the tourist office. Moves to the beach and crosses the lengthy extension of sand until the end where, through a narrow track, it climbs along a group of houses to reach a shadowy trail of acacias. This trail, always following the coastline, starts climbing gradually until it arrives at the plateau in Graciosa’s Hill. Looking back from this point, Tarrafal is each step further afar and the trail gets further above the sea level. When you reach the plateau, there is the possibility to move in direction to the lighthouse (full trail) or carry on towards Fazenda. A visit to the Ponta Preta lighthouse is highly recommendable. The trail follows throughout the plateau, bypassing the Graciosa Hill, and then starts to descend through a track full of rocks, which have inevitable fallen from the top of the hill. When you reach the bottom of the valley, the trail follows through a track road to Fazenda, a perfect place to have some rest before starting the climb on the west side of Graciosa Hill through a track used by the cattle. On the top you can see the village of Tarrafal once again and the beautiful coastline. Next, there is long decline towards the agricultural valley of Ribeira do Fontão. Through sugarcane plantations and water dispensers for the cattle, the trail moves forward to the beach and to the starting point.
