Circular route in which leaving Starigrad we pass a Mirila and climb the Mali Vitrenik (410 m) small peak within the Paklenica Natural Park and excellent viewpoint over the whole area.
La Mirila is a place with small stone monuments that are related to the ancient funerary customs of the nomadic shepherds. When a person died on the mountain, she was taken to the village church and cemetery to be buried. It was only allowed to let the body rest on the ground once. In this place a flat stone was placed in front of the head and feet of the deceased, marking the length of the body. Later the space between the two stones was filled with more flat stones and the stone marking the position of the head was decorated with symbols and inscriptions. This is the origin of the Mirila family that preserved the memory of the dead and was more important than the tombs themselves, because it was believed that the tomb contained only the body without the soul, while it was in the Mirila.
According to oral tradition, this custom dates from the seventeenth century and continued fine into the mid-twentieth century.
It is a short route, about 6.5 km, and with a drop of about 400 m. But the ascent path has a steep slope and goes for a long time through a very stony calcareous terrain where you have to walk very carefully.

¡La funcionaria de la Tourist Info nos la recomendó como ruta sencilla y corta para la familia! Fui solo y mal equipado y me encontré con una ruta de dificultad moderada y, a veces, difícil de seguir. Me ayudó vuestro track. Salutacions!
