Itinerary description

A leisurely stroll through one of the finest valleys in the Bergen area. A few kilometers from the main highway, it is almost unbelievable that this area escaped "development". The start of the walk is a bit tricky: you will have to cross a field behind Jordalsveien 322 in order to reach the old trail that climbs up the mountain face. After about 5 minutes, you pass the dilapidated ruin of an old cottage on your left. Climb a bit further until the trail flattens out and reaches a pine plantation. The "official" trail crosses a swampy area over a series of tree logs and turns left behind the barbed wire (to reach a well-trodden road about 10 minutes later: follow it towards the right if you take this route). However, I improvised a bit, took a walk on the wild side and crossed the forest underneath the power lines. Do not despair: you will reach a proper trail after about 10 minutes. Now things get interesting: you will leave the forest and enter a mountain pasture with sweeping views of the valley below. Enjoy the view and walk towards Stallane, an old mountain cabin that used to be inhabited up until the mid-1950's. The cabin serves as a snack stop during many a weekend: if the flag is waving (you can see it from the valley floor), it is open. After Stallane, the trail starts to gradually descend, following an ancient dry stone wall. Before you know it, it enters a pine plantation once more and zigzags towards the valley floor.
