Itinerary description

Start at Stadt Wehlen (Sachs) train station (30' ride from Dresden Hbf). Head to the ferry. Ferries run all day long. Follow the Mahler path up to the Bastei. Enjoy the place and follow the red signaled trail down to Rathen. Take the ferry again and walk up to the Rauenstein. It is a nice walk in the top and through the rocks. Then as you walk down the rocks make a left turn and walk through the woods to the base of the Grosse bärenstein. Here you can follow the red trail to go around the rock or follow this track and take then a small path on the left and head round the rocks to the base of the formation. There climb up to the top. This is trully a rock climbing, short and reasonably easy but still rock climbing. The views on the top are ok but not that different to the previous views in the Rauenstein. The path in the top is quite "aerial" so be careful. It just feels more "wild" up there. The way down is much simpler and smooth. Then, take again the red trail to the train station. This final part is a nice walk through the fields followed by a steep (but paved with cobble stones)walk down to the station.

Moderate for the length and the rock climbing in the Grosse Bärenstein.
