Itinerary description
A delightful hike around st David's Head. The highlight is garn llidi.
St David's, Porth Clais and Ramsey sound.
We start walking from the incredibly busy -during summer- car park of St David's/ Tyddewi. "There are many sites on the way associated with the life of the Welsh patron saint. In the dark ages Tyddewi was an important centre of the Celtic world." Walking behind houses with beautiful gardens we reach the wild coastline path. Further away Porth Clais comes as a real surprise for the visitor. The blue colour of the water and the picturesque small harbour full of boats reminds us of the Mediterranean beaches. This narrow inlet was once an important harbour serving st David's. There is a canteen for refreshments. Further away Porthlysgi is the only beach where you could swim. There is a narrow entrance point leading into the sandy beach. Walking around the corner of the peninsula all of a sudden we get a first glimpse of Ramsey Island in the midst. Really awesome. The waters of Ramsey sound are treacherous. Ramsey Island is wildlife sanctuary. The boats starting from Ynys Dina's Life Boat station for cruises are all overcrowded and fully booked. Tyddewi is a very touristy town with thousands of visitors. Where are the locals you might wonder? We can't see any local people anywhere. There is an endless queue waiting for hours to eat pizza and we are the last lucky customers
