Itinerary description
I’m the morning we checked out the Lookout to see Lake Wabby and Hammerstone Sandblow which were between us and the ocean. Its a 5km return walk down to the green water of Wabby which is the deepest lake on Fraser.
Lake Wabby camp to the Valley of the Giants, 16km (22km with side tracks). From Wabby you re-enter the closed forest of the central high dunes. After about 12km you can take a 600m side track to visit the vast, desert-like sands of the Badjala Sandblow. From there, return to the walk and if you have time, 1 km before the camp, follow the 5km return walk out to the giant Satinay tree. It soon becomes obvious why this area is called "Valley of the Giants" . It contains some of the largest living trees on Fraser Island. The walkers' camp is located in the heart of this valley.
