Itinerary description
◈ Srvegh or Srveghi vank ( Սրվեղի վանք ) is a13th century monastery located near Aygehovit village ( Այգեհովիտ ) in a hillside called “ Khachi Tak “ (Translated from Armenian: “ Beneath the cross “), in Tavush region.
◈ The monastery has been damaged by the earthquakes and been reconstructed numerous times.
◈ There are a lot of Khackars on the walls and around the monastery. Some of them are even older than the building.
◈ There is an inscription on the which says that the church was founded in 1252 by Artavazd, Sargis and Hovhanes.
▶ Information about this trail
▷ The hiking trail that leads to Srvegh is a gravel road, so you can take this trail by 4x4 as well.
▷ The trail can be very muddy after rainy days (in summer it may get dry soon).
We hiked in mid-March and it was very tough and slippery, especially to hike up. It was also impossible for the vehicles to get there.
▷ This is a classic way to Srvegh monastery from Aygehovit village.
There can be other alternative ways to extend the hike: one of them is a trail leading to Khashtarak village ( Խաշթառակ ).
▷ There are no marked trails here. Though it's very simple to follow the trail.
▷ Srvegh is situated on the height of 1040 m. It’s a little higher than Yerevan, so that’s the reason we do not have severe winters here and usually it’s comfy temperature most of the time of the year.
