Marjan hill is the peninsula north-west of the city of Split. It is covered in a dense Mediterranean pine forest and has a dense network of trails and tracks. The highest point is at 178 m and offers a nice view of the entire city, the surrounding islands, and the nearby mountains of Mosor and Kozjak.
The route starts at the "Riva" (WYPT), Split's seafront promenade, where we follow the shoreline for 400m. At WYPT "Start of Climb" the climb of the Marjan hill starts, first by stairs between the houses. After 250 m ascending by stairs (65 m of altitude) we reach a bar / restaurant with a terrace which gives a magnificant view on Split. A little bit more to the right (or left when you arrive by stairs) you will find a nice panoramic viewpoint for even better views on the city (WYPT "View on Split"). If you just want this nice view, stop here, grab a beer and enjoy. If you want a nice walk and go the peak of Marjan, continue without that beer: on our way back we will pass this bar again, so you will get another opportunity to have that cold beer..
We continue our climb via the wide unpaved path next to the bar. After about 270 m we pass a small church (WYPT "St. Nicolas"), where you can take a short cut to the peak of Marjan. We continue however on the path where we pass after 400 m a fountain (WYPT "Fountain1") and reach a crosspoint of paths after 1,2 km. We take the path to the left and continuw climbing a little bit. At the next cross road you will se a small track on your right hand side that descends (WYPT "A"). This is the only "off-road" part of the route where you will have to be carefull. If you want to avoid this, take the path on the other side of the first cross-road to go down-hill or go right (paved road) at the first cross-road in order to go directly to the peak of Marjan.
After 300 m, you will reach a wider unpaved path where we go to the right. Follow this path from which you have some nice views on the bay (e.g. at WYPT "View on Bay) untill WYPT B". Here you will see a smaller track at the right that at first runs parallel to the larger path, but ascends again. After a short climb, partially by stairs, you will reach a paved road and on your left another panoramic view point (WYPT) with some benches. Follow the road untill a large parking lot. Here you will find the step way of 314 steps (WYPT "Step way") that brings you to the peak of Marjan att 178 m. (WYPT Highest point). The view on the surroundings of Split is nice here, but the view on the city is better from the terrace of the bar/restaurant.
We walk around the peak and go back down by the step way. Once back at the parking lot, you will find another fountain and at your right you will see a large step way which brings you back down to the bar/restaurant. From here we take another way down than on our way up, but which goes also to our starting point at the Riva.

A nice walk around the point - a very easy and relaxing walk.
Can I take the bus to a beach from the top of the trail at Marjan Hill?
Hi Ielia, I haven’t seen any public transport there. Hiking or biking!
