Itinerary description

ATTENTION!
This is the trail of Spitakasar mountain with short and steep descent.
I'd recommend to download from this one from my trails' section to make the hike more comfortable and enjoyable:
" Spitakasar mountain I Classic trail "

Spitakasar is the second highest mountain in the Geghama mountains after Azhdahak peak.
Its altitude is 3555 m.
The name ''Spitakasar'' literally means '' White mountain'', as the whole mountain is full of white colored stones which makes the mount very spectacular and unique in this area.

This route starts from lake Vanki and ends near Lake Badi.
First part of the way you can drive from Geghard village to Vanki lake and then till the slopes of Spitakasar , then climb the mountain and descending Spitakasar keep hiking till lake Badi or Nazeli ( Բադի լիճ , Նազելի լիճ ), where you'll have stunning view and there is also very good spot for camping near the lake.
If you start hiking from the slopes of the mountain till the lake Badi, the route length will be about 8 km.

▲ WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THE GEGHAMA MOUNTAINS IN TOTAL? ▲

--- In the territory of the whole Gegama range ( Գեղամա լեռներ ) there are a lot of tents of Yazidis (national minority in Armenia), which are shepherds' tents. You can contact them, if you need any help.

--- There are huge dogs of shepherds spread in this area (Alabay, Armenian Gampr or Caucasian shepherd), they can attack even if you are not very close to their territory or near tents.
Usually they bark but don't bite, but you should be aware, try passing that part quickly and have some extra food with you to throw to them in case they come very close to you (it can be also a slice of bread, they eat everything, believe me).

--- The weather in the Gegham mountains is awfully unsustainable, it can be sunny, rainy and stormy simultaneously during 2 hours, so be ready for the weather changes and don't trust so much weather forecasts for this area.

--- There is not any mobile service that works in the Gegham mountains, it works only when you are close to the villages or high on the tops,

You have service in the locations below :
-- Close to Lake Akna, all those summits behind: Akna mount, Shushan mount, Narine mount, Shamprasar mountain
--- On Azhdahak summit
--- Near Nalsar mountain (Not always), Nalsar summit.
--- Near Vishapalich lake's Dragonstones (Vishapner) (Not always)

--- Geghamas trails are not blazed, always take reliable GPS tools with you.

SEASON

▶Doable:
From early June till October

▶Recommended:
From early July till mid mid August is the best season for the Geghamas.
It's a blooming period with tons of flowers, greenery, and some snow on the tops. If you want to take the most of The Geghama range, mid July is the best time to come!

▶Not Recommended:
From October till June.
The Geghama plateau is at the altitude of 3000 m, so this land is generally covered with snow for a long time.
The areas below 3000 may be accessible in late May and after October.
After October or mid October first snow falls here, though it is not very deep normally, it’s better to return next year instead of checking it.
