Siamo nella tappa Spello - Assisi della Via di Francesco, iconico cammino che attraversa il centro ltalia.
È un cammino piuttosto difficile, con pendenze importanti, sia in salita che in discesa. La vostra fatica sarà ricompensata da natura ricca, un sottobosco silenzioso e viste meravigliose sulla valle umbra.
Uscendo da Spello, prima dell'inizio del cammino, troverete una fonte di acqua fresca.
Il primo pezzo di cammino, uscendo da Spello, è una salita semplice ma costante, che dura diversi km. Raccomando cappello e protezione solare, anche in primavera/autunno: le uniche zone d'ombra in questo primo tratto sono offerte dagli ulivi lungo la strada.
Procedendo, si entra nel bosco: clima fresco e piacevole. Consiglio una tappa qui, prima di affrontare la prossima salita, che sarà la più impegnativa per pendenza e durata.
Superata questa impegnativa salita sarete sulla costa alta del monte Subasio. Sarete accompagnati da una vista stupenda sulla valle, potreste anche avvistare dei cavalli sulla cima della montagna.
Proseguendo, noi abbiamo fatto una breve deviazione per arrivare alla croce in cima al monte Subasio, che vedrete poco lontano, superando sulla destra il bivio che riporta sul cammino. La consiglio per una breve pausa prima di proseguire, stavolta in discesa.
Il terreno cambia, troverete una sassaiola non comodissima da scendere. Questo tratto vi condurrà su strada asfaltata: i piedi ringraziano e la strada è tranquilla, non abbiamo incontrato macchine.
Nel tratto di asfalto vedrete, alla vostra sinistra, l'Eremo delle Carceri. Non è accessibile da strada: dovrete percorrere un ulteriore tratto di sentiero se volete visitarlo.
Noi abbiamo proseguito fino al parcheggio dell'eremo, che dà inizio ad un nuovo, breve e intenso tratto di salita.
Si conclude con un tratto finale in discesa: la prima parte richiede passo fermo e attenzione, con pioggia e umidità il fondo di sassi diventa a tratti scivoloso. Proseguendo il terreno diventa di brecciolino e più semplice da percorrere.
Troverete, alla fine, una fonte d'acqua fresca per rifornirvi prima dell'ingresso ad Assisi.

This path is part of the "Via di Francesco" Road, which passes through central Italy.
It is a tough walk, with huge slopes both rising and going down.
The effort will be rewarded by huge nature, silence and great views on the valley.
Leaving Spello you'll meet the only water source of the whole walk, so take water if you don't have (or get some extra water!).
The first part of the path is a rising road for a few kilometers. I recommend you to take a hat and sunscreen, even in spring or autumn.
Moving on, you'll meet the forest: you can have a short break here, enjoying the silence, good smell and fresh air.
After a short walk into the forest you will meet the second rise, maybe the most difficult of the path, for incline and duration.
This rise will bring you on the Subasio mountain, almost on top. You will go along surrounded by a great view on the valley, maybe some horses around and a sweet rise.
Here we had a second break, before going on and making a small change in direction (just 5 minutes): before the descent part of the road, you will see a cross on the top of the mountain. You can reach it to get a beautiful view on the valley.
Now you go back and follow the descent.
It is a tough descent, with stone ground. This part will lead you to the asphalt road (you'll meet no or few cars, it is a calm road).
The road will bring you to the "Eremo delle Carceri" parking lot, where a short rise will bring you to a nice break station with tables and chairs. Here starts the last descent, again with stones ground, which can be quite slippery, so be careful. The very last part of your road is a smooth descent with pebbles on the ground, definitely more comfortable. At the end of the path, before entering Assisi, you will find a water fountain to rest and hydrate.
