Itinerary description
A hike to two pretty lakes at the top of the Malahat. The trail is in pleasant forest shade at the lakes but between the two it passes through a clearcut.
There are some peekaboo views of the mainland mountains from the clearcut section (but not on the cloudy day of this hike).
There is a large parking lot and there are pit toilets located near the trailhead.
Some history...Oliphant is not a "natural" lake, it was created in the 1930's as a water source for the Bamberton cement works.
{see: www.earthfuture.com/community/bamberton/bam16.asp}
Spectacle is so named due to its shape, it looks like eyeglasses when seen from above.
I would give this hike an AVA rating of 2B.
