Itinerary description
An excellent walk in the uppger parts, above 150-200 m altitude. Below there are paved streets, lots of garbage, ruined houses, especially in the eastern part, close to Souda.
We took the local bus from Chania to Souda, runs frequently.
The upper part is a beautiful agricultural landscape with sheeps and goats maintaining open pastureland. In the small village of Malaxa (80 inhabitants) there is a small and very simple coffee shop (private home), wonderful after ascending 450 m.
The descent (to the west) is very beautiful, a grassy small road winding through the hillside.
We went back to Souda but another option would be to go to Tsikalaria and take taxi (or bus, there should be one) back to Chania.
An easy walk since it runs on gravel and grassy roads, easy to find. But some people might consider 1000 m change in altitude a bit too much.
