Itinerary description

Starting from Sotira, one of the most beautiful villages of Albania and the Greek minority with picturesque buildings, we took the road to Mourgana.

The trail is not marked so you need to be careful not to get lost. You should have trail on your phone or a guide to find the correct path.

The nature is beautiful with dense forest as you go up. The flora is rare when you reach the peak, however the view is breathtaking. You can see all the plain of Dropoli, Zagori, Nemercka, Corfu (Ionian Sea) and many other regions of Epirus and Albania.

My phone was dead when I was descending, therefore there is this straight line to Saranda where I switched on my phone again.

    Hi,

Can you please give more details about the hike? As we are planning to take similar hike in April. We have hotel in Saranda from 7th April means we have from 5 till 7 we could make a hike in Albania.

    Waiting for your kind response.

    With best regards,
    Hemang.

    Hello,

You need to take into account that there is a ~2hour drive from Saranda to Sotira, so you need to depart early. Then you have to check the weather conditions of those days - most likely the snow has melted at that period in Mourgana and it is fine. You need to have food before reaching in Sotira as in the village you probably won't find. There is running water in Sotira. You need to carry food and water since Sotira, I don't remember another place in the trail to re-supply. You need rugget shoes as the trail can have rocks.

You can follow this trail, be advised that we made a wrong turn in the beginning of the ascent (we turned right and not left) - this is visible in the recorded trail.

    Best,
    Dimitris

Actually, I forgot to ask main question, as I can see from map your phones went dead after 9.1-9.2 kilometres. Which way did you take from there on as I think that is main exit for your descend.
